Yes I know, I'm a very bad college student for not updating more. Please forgive my laziness for I am a college student and therefore have earned the right to be lazy. So guess what? I am now a sophomore and currently I'm finishing up my last class for the summer and looking forward to my new 2010 fall schedule! I feel like the luckiest student amongst all my friends on campus because since I was brave enough to stay for the summer to take classes, I was able to snag a couple on campus jobs!
Yay for the graduating seniors of 2010! Woot woot! Loving life so much right now and my tuition is fully covered for the year and I some extra left over for text books and cleaning supplies for my new dorm room or I could buy a load of new clothes. Ah decisions, decisions. And that's why the credit card was invented!
Of course I fell for the devils trap and now I owe a lot of money this month but my next paycheck will surely cover it, if not I can rely on my financial refund to fall back on. I refuse to ask my family for help for financial issues because I want to prove to them that I am an independent woman. I will get past this minor hurdle and move forward to success.
Since I will be writing articles pretty soon, I think it would do me some good to blog more to sharpen my writing skills. I think I may have slight dyslexia. Practice makes perfect and hopefully I won't have anything to worry about since I type so fast. I've recently switched from Metro to Sprint. Those of you can sympathize who know or currently bear the frustration of dropped calls and poor customer service with Metro. I love my new blackberry curve. I see now why they call it the Crackberry. It's perfect for work and school and it was free from Sprint. :)
I promise to update more soon. Tips for college students and checklist will be posted next time. Thank you for reading.

Death by Bleach and Pinesol
This weekend was so stressful for me. I started moving into my new apartment yesterday and I finally finished late today in the afternoon. My muscles ache all over my body. My apartment has three floors and no elevator. Who ever designed these apartment buildings were either fucking stupid or cheap as hell not to include fucking elevators. I'm definitely going to lose a lot of weight this summer. Me and my boyfriend made up yesterday. I'm not sure what happened exactly. It's like he melts my anger away so I can never be angry at him for very long when we're together but its so easy to be mad at him over the phone. Why is that? And today I'm starting to get frustrated with him again because it feels like he doesn't want to talk to me. I called him twice today and he gave me lame ass excuses for why he couldn't talk to me. Why can't he just be honest with me damn?! I do not trust him anymore. How can there a long lasting relationship with out trust? Sometimes I feel like he's just playing me. Am I the fool in love with a jerk? I don't want to be a stereotype. I thought about going on a break so I could just focus on myself but how long would that be? Separation can either break the relationship or make it stronger but most of the time it ends in disaster when someone starts to fall for someone else. Of course that's already happened but I don't want it to happen again...

End of Semester
So yeah, I didn't keep up with my blog as much as I originally wanted too but life happens, frustrations mount, and homework piles up. Thankfully I finished my final exams on Thursday. Currently I'm waiting to move into my new apartment and for summer I classes to start. I'm taking math for summer I and an online history course for summer II. I'm stressed out over the slow process to move and get financial aid for summer classes. But what's mostly bothering me right now is my relationships. My relationship with my family is strained and the love of my life is slowly shifting me to the backseat in his life right behind his best friend. I feel like I give so much and he returns so little. I don't feel important and neglected. I have doubts of my relationship lasting the summer and in a way it kinda feels like I'm just poking a dead animal with a stick hoping it will still move. I feel like I did everything right as a good girlfriend but it isn't enough. Why does this love have to be so freaking complicated?! Its ridiculous. I love him with all my heart and I know I will always love him but he's too selfish to give me what I need in a good boyfriend. My hearts so much just thinking about him. I want this pain so badly to end.

Spring Break!!!
Spring Break is finally here! That also means a small helping of homework from a couple of my classes. Studying, annotated bibliographies, research projects, and essays. Yippee. I'm glad to be back at home but I really miss my clean bathroom at my dorm.
The spring semester is half way through and I've already started preparing for the fall semester. I've already completed my FAFSA, I've completed my priority room assignment applications, and I'm in the process of registering for summer classes at my local community college. I plan to take my core math classes required for my major. A tip for all future and current college students, summer classes are much easier because they are shorter.
Just don't take more than two per summer term. Try taking classes you are not particularly fond of or are more expensive in your university at a community college instead. I also thinking about taking what they call winter classes. I've recently discovered that my local community college also offer classes during winter break while most universities are suppose to be closed down. Also if you can, don't forget to try testing out of core classes that are required for you to graduate like computer science. I think I've mentioned that before but it doesn't hurt to reiterate. I love college life because it makes me feel independent. I believe everyone should have a chance and try it at least once. ;p
Okay I admit, I am not an avid regular blogger as I should be. But I try. When I started this blog I was hoping that maybe, just maybe it would help my creative juices flow and be a helpful outlet for my stress and anxiety so as to further my academic success. Unfortunately, its not doing much good since I am not dedicating myself to this wonderfully free writing project.
I can feel my grades starting to slip and it terrifies me a little bit. I don't want to lose my financial aid and I don't want to drop out. I despise being told what to do and studying is at the top of my list. I used to love studying but I stopped in high school because I was tired of being labeled a nerd. Maybe if I had a little more courage to stand up to peer pressure then I would have been able to push myself far enough to reach valedictorian status?
I want to do better in college, I desperately do but it feels like I have to relearn how to study. How does one study exactly? Maybe I should make flash cards or something? There are so many distractions in my life. Television, internet, music, novels, friends, family, my love life, school activities, and most of all procrastination. Managing procrastination is the hardest part. I'm always texting on my cell phone, eating, sleeping, cleaning my room, washing my clothes, or making idle chatter. I'll have to work on that during Spring Break.

A New Day, A New Start
Today is the last day of school for me this week. I don't have class on fridays. I'm tired but I'm not worn out like I used to be last semester. I don't really have homework. It's mostly just study, study, study. But that's college right? Embarking on the journey to enlightenment. I love my life as a college student. A nicely sized room, food whenever I want it, cable channels on my big screen, flat screen televisions in almost every building, free newspapers, and the icing on the cake, wireless internet everywhere! Wi-fi is the best invention since the computer.
I have a creative project to prepare for soon. For my speech class, I have to bring in something anonymously that represents me in some little way. I think I'll write a new poem and adorn it on some poster board with pictures of things I like or that relate to my poem. Poetry is so easy. I am a poet, well at least at heart since I'm technically not majoring in it or anything. But maybe I should? I wonder if anyone will ever read my blog? Just like Julie in the movie Julie&Julia, I wait for some little response or acknowledgement that my thoughts actually matter.
Tomorrow is a mystery for me. I was planning on spending time with my boyfriend but as fate would have something once again has interfered with our hopes. I miss him so much. I think I'll give him a call after publishing this post.

First week
Wow, last week was intense. I have four classes: English, Texas Government, Speech, and History. I don't know if you can see the schedule above, I did my best to edit and resize it. So, I have all of my textbooks which I saved alot of money on because I bought two of them cheaper from fellow students and I'm renting one from www.chegg.com It is a really cool and easy site to rent textbooks from. I ordered a book I needed for my english class on wednesday and it got to my parent's house by saturday. My mom is bringing the book up to my dorm sometime this week and I'm so excited. The rented text book also comes with a free return for shipping package.
Right now I plan to go buy a pair of sneakers so I can use the free gym on campus because I gained like five pounds or more over winter break. Losing weight on campus is kind of hard because of the buffet style cafeteria on campus and the starbucks and chick-fil-a are not very helpful either. According to my school doctor, I have high blood pressure and cholesterol for a nineteen year old. She suggest I exercise and go on a diet. But the difficult thing is actually rolling out of my soft warm bed to exercise and control my ravenous cravings for chocolate and salty goodness. We have a convenience store in the dorms which has a mini pizzeria which bakes full size and personal pan pizzas and the most delicious hot wings ever! Oh the carbs are not my friend.
Hopefully, I will find the will power to change my poor habits and lose weight by spring break so I can buy a sexy new bathing suit. I really want to go somewhere this year like take a road trip to corpus or Galveston or even Myrtle Beach. Anywhere there's a beach and a totally awesome college party I'm so in. I just wish I knew more people with cars that I can bribe with gas money and food. :)
Until next time,

How I made my way into college
College is the next step to entering the "real world" as teachers and professors would say to me. In high school, I had a generally idea of where I wanted to go, how much I wanted to spend, and what I wanted to do with my life.
Next came down to narrowing my options before selecting my choices. Thanks to a very helpful college prep after school program offered in my school district, I was able to obtain fee waivers for testing and college admissions. In order to be eligible for most college admission processes and financial aid, SAT and ACT scores are necessary to survive the economic climate especially if you come from a middle class income like me. Unfortunately the tests cost quite a bit of money, but if you are eligible you may be able to find waivers from your high school counselor, a college ready program, or from the university/college of your choice.
Some colleges also offer fee waivers for application admission processing if you were also eligible for a fee waiver for either the SAT or ACT. When applying for most colleges and universities in Texas, an easy to use versatile online application is available to apply to many colleges at once with just one application that can be edited to suit the needs of each college admission requirements. All your basic information is saved and you can reused an essay or edit it for each essay prompt requirement. Not all colleges require an essay for admission. The application can be found online at www.applytexas.org
Another factor to consider is your high school rank. You can usually find out your rank from your high school counselor in your junior or senior year during the spring semester. Graduating in the top 10% of your class enables you with automatic admission at many prestigious colleges. My rank was in the top 25% of my class and granted me automatic admission for the university I applied for.
When considering both my rank and test scores I was able to narrow down my choices to a select few in-state universities to avoid outrageous out-of-state charges. Next I quickly filed for my FAFSA as soon as my mother received her income tax. The FAFSA is the most important application to fill out for receiving the most financial aid possible to lower your out of pocket expenses. Excess financial aid is usually disbursed through a school credit card or through a check in the mail. Financial aid can be used to pay for textbooks, school supplies, a new laptop, or whatever you need.
Some scholarships require you to fill out the FAFSA in order to better determine your eligibility. There are tons of scholarships available year round for high school school seniors and current college students. Many can be found on www.fastweb.com , www.scholarships.com , www.zinch.com , and www.collegeprowler.com Also, be sure to check the school for which you are applying for if they have any departmental scholarships for your major, study abroad or general scholarships.
Research was my next step to applying to college. I spent exhausting hours upon hours on the internet looking up each college's website that I was interested in. I looked over and compared the costs of room&board, tuition, textbooks, and misc. fees. I also considered the dorm and meal plan options, the local shopping district, parking lots available on campus, clubs, and organizations on campus. I took the time to check up on reviews and ratings of each school.
Once I finally picked a school to apply for, I attended their Open House and stayed the night to get a better feel for what my dorm life would be like. I made sure to ask as many questions about the school, teachers, and courses during my visits. I met with admission counselors, professors, and current students. I found my school, applied online, and submitted all the documents needed to qualify for scholarships, grants, and student loans. I am a current freshmen and am about to start my spring semester on January 19. I have plenty of financial aid for school and books. I love my new school and I hope to raise my gpa to a 4.0 by the end of the year. Wish me luck everyone! Feel free to post or email questions you may have about applying for college and financial aid.
